Where the Court Sits

Rockland County Supreme Court is at 1 South Main Street, New City, NY 10956. The building is the county's main civil courthouse. It handles Individual Assignment System (IAS) assignments for general civil matters, along with specialized parts for family and matrimonial matters that we do not cover.

Administratively, Rockland sits in the Ninth Judicial District, alongside Westchester, Putnam, Orange, and Dutchess. On appeal, Rockland falls within the Second Appellate Department.

What We Cover in Rockland

The Law Office of Frederic R. Abramson provides per diem coverage and local counsel services at Rockland County Supreme Court for civil matters only. That includes:

  • Preliminary conferences
  • Compliance conferences
  • Status conferences
  • Discovery motions and motions to compel
  • Summary judgment motions and motions to dismiss
  • Orders to show cause
  • Examinations before trial (EBTs) and depositions
  • 50-H hearings
  • Trial readiness and calendar calls
  • Pro hac vice local counsel for out-of-state attorneys

We do not handle matters in family court, criminal court, housing court, immigration court, or Surrogate's Court. We do not try cases. When an out-of-state attorney retains us as pro hac vice local counsel, we handle the procedural side of the case: NYSCEF filings, court appearances, discovery compliance, and judge-specific requirements.

Filing and Motion Practice

Civil cases in Rockland County Supreme Court are filed through NYSCEF, the New York State Courts E-Filing System. E-filing is mandatory for most civil matters. Service on opposing counsel is handled through NYSCEF once they consent to e-service or are compelled to participate.

Motion practice follows CPLR Article 22. Return dates are assigned when the motion is filed. Opposition and reply deadlines follow the CPLR unless modified by the assigned judge's Part Rules. Always check the Part Rules before filing. Some judges require pre-motion conferences, impose page limits, or modify default return-date schedules.

Orders to show cause are submitted to the assigned IAS judge. Plan for additional time if the judge requires a hearing before signing. We handle the full OSC package: presentation to the judge, service as directed, and the return-date appearance.

Appellate Division: Second Department

Rockland is in the Second Department on appeal. Pro hac vice admission in the trial court does not carry over to the Appellate Division. If your case is appealed, a separate pro hac vice motion must be filed at the Appellate Division.

The Certificate of Good Standing supporting a Second Department pro hac vice motion must be dated within 30 days of the verification of the motion. See our guide to the 30-day rule for details.
