Become a Per Diem Attorney.

Build a work schedule around your own commitments, your counties, and your areas of expertise.

The Law Office of Frederic R. Abramson covers court appearances and depositions for law firms throughout New York. As volume grows, I retain experienced attorneys to appear on assignment in the courts they already know.

The scheduler below is the whole system. You tell me the counties you cover, the courts and appearance types you handle, and the specific dates and half-days you are open. I assign work against that schedule and send you the details in advance. I never ask you to hold a date you did not offer.

How It Works

1

Set your schedule

Mark the dates you are available and whether you can cover the morning calendar, the afternoon calendar, or both. Update it whenever your own calendar changes.

2

Receive the assignment

I send a standalone email with the caption, index number, courthouse, part, judge, time, the party we represent, and the directives to follow. You confirm or decline. I do not assign anything to you without your confirmation.

3

Appear and report

You make the appearance, and you send me a same-day report and a copy of any order taken. I handle the client relationship, the billing, and every question that comes back from the court or from opposing counsel.

4

Get paid

I state the flat fee in the assignment email before you accept, so you know the number in advance. I pay by Zelle, Venmo, or check.

Who I am looking for

I look for attorneys who are admitted and in good standing in New York, who are comfortable on a motion or conference calendar, and who show up on time. Coverage runs across Supreme, Civil, Surrogate's, Housing, and Family Court. The work includes conferences, motion argument, EBTs, EUOs, and 50-h hearings. Retired and semi-retired litigators, solo practitioners filling open days, and of-counsel attorneys are all a good fit. Questions before you apply? Email fabramson@abramsonlegal.com.

Common Questions

Is this an employment position?

No. Every assignment is an independent per diem engagement. You are not an employee, you are not exclusive to this office, and you are free to take work from anyone else.

Am I obligated to accept an assignment?

No. Marking a date as available tells me I can ask. You confirm or decline each assignment on its own terms, and the fee is stated before you accept.

Do I need my own malpractice coverage?

Yes. Every attorney in the network carries current professional liability insurance, and I ask for the declaration page before your first assignment.

What does the report have to include?

The report covers what happened on the record, what the court directed, the next appearance date, and a copy of any order taken. I send you the report format after your first assignment is confirmed. Reports are due the same day as the appearance.

Who talks to the client?

I do. You appear as the attorney of record's office and route every question from the court or from opposing counsel back through me. The referring firm's relationship stays with this office.

How do I change my availability?

Open this page again and submit the form with your new dates. I work from the most recent submission. You can also email your changes directly.
