A Remote Appearance Is Still an Appearance

Some New York parts now hear conferences and motions remotely, usually on Microsoft Teams. Some Queens County judges conduct every appearance virtually, and other parts sit remotely for particular calendars. A virtual appearance saves the trip, but it does not save the time: the calendar still runs late, the attorney still has to know the file, and a missed call still has consequences.

We cover virtual appearances on the same terms as in-person ones. Same preparation, same authority, same written report.

What We Cover Remotely

Conferences. Preliminary, compliance, status, and settlement conferences held on Teams or by telephone.
Motions. Remote oral argument where the part allows it. We read the part rules first to confirm whether argument is happening at all.
Depositions. EBTs, EUOs, and 50-h hearings on Zoom or Teams. See our deposition services page.

What We Need From You

Send the caption, index number, part, date, and time, and forward the court’s notice or the meeting link if you have it. If the part has not sent a link, tell us who at the part sends them, and we will follow up. Settlement authority and any instructions for opposing counsel matter as much remotely as they do in the courtroom.

Pricing

Per diem services are available to attorneys and law firms only. Coverage is billed at a flat rate per session rather than by the hour, and morning and afternoon sessions are billed separately. Depositions, EBTs, and 50-h hearings carry their own flat rates. Published rates are on our per diem services page, and we quote the exact rate when we confirm the appearance.
