The Calendar Call Is Split by Caption Letter
This part does not call one calendar. It calls two, and which one a case belongs to depends on the first letter of the case caption.
Captions that begin with A through M are called at 10:00 a.m. Captions that begin with N through Z are called at 2:15 p.m.
An attorney who reads the first time and ignores the letter has a one-in-two chance of sitting through a morning that does not include the case, or of arriving in the afternoon for a case that was called before lunch. Check the caption, then set the travel time.

Split Calendar Call
The part runs a split calendar call keyed to the first letter of the case caption. Captions beginning with the letters A through M are called at 10:00 a.m. Captions beginning with the letters N through Z are called at 2:15 p.m.
Motions Are Argued In Person
Per the published rules, all motions will be in person, as they will no longer be taken on submission. Counsel cannot submit a motion on the papers and stay away from the courthouse. Someone has to appear.
Adjournments
A consent adjournment must be emailed to the part by 1:00 p.m. on the day before the scheduled date. Without a court order, a matter may be adjourned no more than twice. A fully briefed motion will not be adjourned.

A request for a virtual appearance requires seven days' notice.

Before You Send a Covering Attorney
Two things decide whether a covering attorney is useful in this part. The first is the call time, which turns on the first letter of the caption and nothing else. The second is that motions are argued, not submitted, so whoever appears has to be able to speak to the moving papers.
If an adjournment is needed, it has to be emailed by 1:00 p.m. the day before, and a fully briefed motion will not be adjourned at all. Our office confirms the call time and the appearance type with the part before every date.

Tips
- Read the caption before the calendar. The letter the caption starts with sets the call time. A case captioned in the first half of the alphabet is a morning appearance, and a case captioned in the second half is an afternoon appearance.
- Brief the covering attorney on the motion. Motions in this part are argued in person, so a covering attorney who cannot speak to the papers is of limited use at the call.
- Send the consent adjournment the day before, not the morning of. The cutoff is 1:00 p.m. on the day before the scheduled date.
- Count the adjournments already taken. A matter gets two adjournments without a court order, and a fully briefed motion gets none.
- Ask for a virtual appearance a week out. The published rules call for seven days' notice, so a request made the week of the date is late.
Field Note from September 9, 2026
On a motion to vacate in Liquidibee 1 LLC v. Sky Rise Inc. (Index No. 513884/2025), the movant did not appear. The motion was marked off the calendar with no new date set, rather than denied.
That outcome is materially different from a denial. Nothing was decided on the merits and no new return date came out of the appearance, which leaves the movant holding a motion that is off the calendar and a case that has not moved. This is one dated observation from one appearance, not a published rule and not a prediction of what happens on any other date.
