Tips

• Treat 10:00 a.m. as a hard stop, not a start time. The published calendar call is 10:00 a.m. sharp on Wednesdays, the rules provide for no second call, and they state that a late appearance may result in default. Arrive early enough that a security line cannot make the difference.
• Plan for an in-person appearance. The Part Rules require parties to appear in person, on the Wednesday motion calendar and at the Tuesday conferences alike.
• Move an adjournment early. A first motion adjournment goes to the Part by stipulation emailed three business days before the return date, and every other adjournment needs five days’ written notice. An adjournment sought inside those windows is outside the published procedure.
• Tuesday conferences run on the same clock. Status and settlement conferences are called at 11:00 a.m. sharp and are held in person, so the arrival discipline that applies to the Wednesday motion calendar applies to them as well.
• Know which part the case sits in. Justice Edwards holds Part 8, FRP-1, and Commercial Part 2, and all three sit in Courtroom 756. Confirm the part designation on the notice before the date.

Field Note from September 9, 2026

This is an account of a single appearance on one date. It is not a Part Rule and nothing in it should be treated as one.

On September 9, 2026, our office argued a motion to compel supplemental discovery responses in Commercial Part 2 (Global Merchant Cash Inc. v. Veear Projects, Index No. 501527/2026). The motion was seventh on the calendar and the defendant did not appear. The court directed our office to prepare a short-form order, and when the clerk advised that a compliance conference was already scheduled for November 10, 2026, the court adjourned the motion to be heard on that date.
