Conferences
“Preliminary, compliance and status conferences are held on Thursdays IN PERSON unless otherwise indicated.” The parties may submit a proposed conference order at least one day before the conference date in lieu of appearing. The order must be signed by all parties and emailed to sfc-part37-clerk@nycourts.gov with all parties copied.
Consequences
“The failure to timely submit an order on consent and/or appear for a scheduled appearance may result in the case being dismissed or pleadings being stricken.”
Oral Argument
“Oral argument on motions will be held on Tuesdays IN PERSON unless otherwise indicated.” “Not all motions will be scheduled for oral argument.” A party who wants argument on a motion the Court has not scheduled must send a letter to the Part 37 Clerk, copying all parties.
Adjournments
Email the Part 37 Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. two business days before the appearance, with all parties copied. If all parties do not consent, the request must set forth good cause.
Orders to Show Cause
A motion or special proceeding may be started by order to show cause only where a statute requires it, a stay is required, or emergency interim relief is sought. All orders to show cause must first be processed by the Ex Parte Motion Office.
Telephone Calls
Calls go to the Part Clerk between 9:30 a.m. and 12:50 p.m. or 2:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Calls to chambers are permitted only in emergencies and after the Part Clerk cannot be reached.

Before You Send a Covering Attorney
This part gives the parties a way to avoid the trip, and punishes a party that neither uses it nor appears.
- A signed consent order emailed at least a day early replaces the appearance.
- Neither an order nor an appearance risks dismissal or stricken pleadings.
- Adjournment requests close at 5:00 p.m. two business days out.

What to Expect
Part 37 runs conferences on Thursdays and argues selected motions on Tuesdays, both in person unless the Court indicates otherwise.
Field Note: September 23, 2026
Our office appeared for a plaintiff at a preliminary conference, and the court signed a preliminary conference order at the conference. It set staggered deposition dates for five parties, beginning about three and a half months out; 30-day deadlines for outstanding demands, authorizations, insurance, and witness and photograph exchanges; and a note of issue deadline more than a year out. The compliance conference was set for a Thursday at 9:30 a.m., about ten weeks later. This is an account of one appearance on one date, not a published rule.
