Motion Calendar, Tuesdays at 10:00 AM in Courtroom 68
All motions in Part 27 are returnable and heard on Tuesdays at 10:00 A.M. in Courtroom 68. Effective January 2, 2024, the part requires in-person appearances by all parties on all motions, so counsel should not plan on a virtual appearance or on submitting without argument. Motion Submission Forms are no longer required. Every page and every paragraph of the papers must be numbered, and the part does not accept a sur-reply without permission.
Orders to Show Cause and Emergency Applications
Orders to show cause and emergency applications are also returnable in person on Tuesdays at 10:00 A.M. The application must include a separate emergency affidavit and the notice required by 22 NYCRR 202.7. Counsel calls the Ex Parte Office at (718) 298-1018 and the Part Clerk at (718) 298-1640 in connection with the application.
Adjournments
Part 27 limits the parties to one consent adjournment. A request made less than two business days before the return date will be denied unless it falls under 22 NYCRR 125.1, a medical emergency, another exigent circumstance, or the unavailability of the court.
Discovery Motions
A discovery motion requires a prior compliance conference and the express written permission of the compliance conference judge. Both orders must be filed alongside the motion. Part 27 does not hold preliminary or compliance conferences. Preliminary conference orders are generated automatically on the filing of an RJI and a preliminary conference request, and compliance conference orders have been generated automatically since February 7, 2022. Neither requires an appearance.
Trial Requirements
Counsel emails the part marked pleadings, copies of the bill of particulars, a witness list, an exhibit list, and proposed jury instructions and a proposed verdict sheet. Tort actions in this part are generally bifurcated.
Jamaica Courthouse
Part 27 sits at the Queens County Supreme Court civil courthouse at 88-11 Sutphin Boulevard, Jamaica, NY 11435. The Jamaica courthouse houses civil motion practice, preliminary and compliance conferences, and trial parts. A separate Queens Supreme Court civil branch operates in Long Island City at 25-10 Court Square, and our office does not provide per diem coverage at the LIC location. If your matter is assigned to a judge sitting at LIC, confirm the calendar call location before booking.
NYSCEF Filing
Most civil matters in Queens Supreme Court are filed through NYSCEF. Motion papers, opposition, and replies should be e-filed consistent with the part’s posted submission schedule. The Part Clerk confirms working copy requirements on request.
2026 Part Reassignments
Queens Supreme Court reassigned a number of justices during 2026, and the published Queens rules PDFs lag the current bench. At least one Queens rules PDF still lists a justice who left the bench in March 2026. Before any motion appearance, confirm the current justice, part, courtroom, and calendar time directly with the Part Clerk. Do not rely on an older listing, and do not rely on a published PDF alone.

Jamaica Courthouse Logistics
88-11 Sutphin Boulevard is a working Queens courthouse. Security screening is standard. Expect a line during morning calendar hours. Build in time. The Jamaica Long Island Rail Road station is a short walk. Parking is limited. If you are coming from Manhattan, the E and J trains to Sutphin Boulevard-Archer Avenue are the fastest option.
What to Expect in Part 27
- Somebody has to show up. Part 27 requires an in-person appearance on every motion by every party. Counsel who is used to submitting a motion in a Queens submission part and waiting for a decision will be surprised, and there is no virtual option to fall back on.
- Call the Part in advance. Queens reassigned a number of justices during 2026, and the published PDFs lag the bench. If the last time you appeared in this Part was 2025 or earlier, the justice, the room, or the calendar time may have changed. Confirm before you travel.
- Spend the one adjournment carefully. The part allows a single consent adjournment, and a request made inside two business days will be denied outside the narrow exceptions in the rules.
- Get leave before you move on discovery. A discovery motion needs a prior compliance conference and the written permission of the compliance conference judge, and both orders go in with the motion.
- Number everything. The part requires numbered pages and numbered paragraphs, and it will not read a sur-reply that arrives without permission.
When to Send Per Diem Counsel
Routine motion appearances, adjournments, status updates, and straightforward oral arguments are well suited to per diem coverage by experienced local counsel. Because every motion in this part draws a mandatory in-person appearance, per diem coverage carries more of the calendar here than it does in a submission part. Complex dispositive motions involving contested factual records or novel legal issues are better handled by the attorney of record or an associate who has been briefed on the full procedural history.

An earlier version of this page did not identify the courtroom, described the calendar call time as either 9:30 AM or 11:30 AM, and stated that conferences in this part may be conducted virtually or in person. The published Part 27 Rules place the part in Courtroom 68, set the motion calendar for Tuesdays at 10:00 A.M., and require in-person appearances on all motions. All three points have been corrected against the published rules.
