Justice Gotlieb holds IAS Part 71 and all five Kings Discovery Parts: the Intake-Preliminary Conference Part (PC), the Central Compliance Part (CCP), CCP Oral Argument (CCP-OA), the Note of Issue Final Conference Part (NI-FCP), and the City/TA Discovery Part (CDP). Part 71 and CCP Oral Argument sit in Courtroom 362. The Preliminary Conference Part, the Central Compliance Part, the Note of Issue Final Conference Part, and the City/TA Discovery Part sit in Courtroom 282. Both courtrooms are at 360 Adams Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201.
Motion and Oral Argument Calendars
The general motion calendar is called on Tuesdays, with a first call at 9:45 a.m. and a second call at 10:45 a.m. The oral argument calendar is also called on Tuesdays, at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
Motions and Orders to Show Cause Are In Person
The Part Rules state: “All motions and Orders to Show Cause will be in person, as they will not be taken on submission.” There is no submission option on a motion or an Order to Show Cause before Justice Gotlieb, so someone has to be in the courtroom.
Note of Issue Final Conference Part (NI-FCP)
These rules decide whether an appearance is needed at all, so read them before anyone is sent to a final conference.
- No appearance is necessary if a Note of Issue has been served and filed before the final conference date.
- If the Note of Issue has not been served and filed, counsel must either submit an order with the consent of all parties by 3:00 p.m. two days before the conference, or appear in person.
- Do neither, and the action is marked Administratively Dismissed on default.
Proposed Orders and Stipulations on E-Filed Cases
On e-filed cases, proposed orders and stipulations go to NYSCEF only. The Part Rules add: “Do not e-mail the part to inform the Court that you have uploaded an order.”
Courtroom 282 Call Times
Courtroom 282 opens at 9:30 a.m. and cases are called as soon as they are ready. The published call is 11:00 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

Before You Send a Covering Attorney
Two published rules decide the whole assignment, and they point in opposite directions.
On a motion or an Order to Show Cause, an appearance is mandatory. These are in person and are not taken on submission, and the calendar is called on Tuesday at 9:45 a.m. with a second call at 10:45 a.m. Whoever appears needs to be in the courtroom for the call.
On a note-of-issue final conference, an appearance may be unnecessary. If the Note of Issue was served and filed before the conference date, nobody has to appear. If it was not, the choice is an order on the consent of all parties submitted by 3:00 p.m. two days before the conference, or an in-person appearance. Doing neither gets the action marked Administratively Dismissed on default, so confirm which of the three applies before the date rather than on the morning of the conference.

Tips
- Check the courtroom before the date, not on the morning. The courtroom depends on which part the case is on. Part 71 and CCP Oral Argument sit in Courtroom 362, and the Preliminary Conference, Central Compliance, Note of Issue Final Conference, and City/TA Discovery Parts sit in Courtroom 282.
- Answer the appearance question first on a final conference. The Note of Issue Final Conference Part rules turn on whether the Note of Issue was served and filed before the conference date. That single fact decides whether anyone has to be sent at all, and the fallback order has to be on file by 3:00 p.m. two days out.
- Treat the second call as the deadline on a motion. The motion calendar is called Tuesday at 9:45 a.m., with the second call at 10:45 a.m., and the motion cannot be submitted instead.
- Build the schedule around the 9:30 a.m. opening in Courtroom 282. Cases are called as soon as they are ready, so a covering attorney should plan to be there when the courtroom opens rather than at the published call time.
- Upload to NYSCEF and stop there. Proposed orders and stipulations on e-filed cases go to NYSCEF only, and the Part Rules tell counsel not to e-mail the part to report the upload.
Field Note from August 2026
On August 13, 2026, our office appeared at 9:45 a.m. on a plaintiff's motion calendar before Justice Gotlieb. After oral argument the court set the full deposition schedule from the bench, directing the plaintiff's deposition on or before October 13, 2026, the defendant hospital on or before October 18, 2026, and the co-defendant on or before October 20, 2026, with demands served by August 31 and responses by September 30. (Rivera v. The Brooklyn Hospital Center, Index No. 524525/25.) That is an account of one appearance on one date, not a published rule.
