Location and Contact
Justice Wilma Guzman presides over Part IA-7 in Courtroom 624 at 851 Grand Concourse. Counsel direct scheduling and calendar questions to the Part 7 Clerk at 718-618-1288 or to BxSupCiv-IA7@nycourts.gov. Any communication with the court must be by letter e-filed on NYSCEF, or sent to all counsel in a matter that is not e-filed. Telephone calls to chambers are permitted only in an emergency that requires immediate attention, and counsel do not call chambers for the status of a pending motion.
Calendar and Appearance Format
The Part calls its motion calendar on Mondays at 9:30 a.m., followed by a second and final call. Compliance and discovery conferences are held in person on Monday afternoons. All motions require an in-person appearance in Courtroom 624. The Part does not hold virtual conferences absent exigent circumstances.
Adjournments
Requests for an adjournment or an extension of time must be filed as a stipulation on NYSCEF. A request to adjourn a court appearance must be made at least 48 hours before the scheduled date.
Case Management
Judge Guzman administers cases through the IAS system with individual assignment, and the Part focuses on moving cases toward resolution through efficient discovery and case management.
Settlement Conferences
Judge Guzman often suggests a settlement conference, and she takes an active interest in helping the parties resolve their disputes.

What to Expect
Judge Guzman is fair, accessible, and genuinely interested in resolving disputes. She listens carefully to both sides and asks thoughtful questions. She is not impressed by legal rhetoric and prefers straightforward presentations of the facts and law.
Tips
- Be straightforward and candid. Judge Guzman values honesty. If you have weaknesses in your case, acknowledge them and explain how you will overcome them.
- Prepare for settlement discussions. The court encourages mediation and settlement conferences. Come with actual settlement authority and a realistic range.
- Discovery compliance is expected. Provide complete and timely responses to discovery. Disputes should be resolved through meet and confer before filing motions.
- Ask questions in oral argument. If the court asks a question, answer it directly. Don't dodge or evade.
- Submit well-organized motion papers. Clear, well-organized briefs are appreciated. The court reads them and decides cases on the merits.
