General
Justice Lewis handles IAS Part 21 as well as City Parts 20 and 25, in Courtroom 461 at 360 Adams Street. The Principal Law Clerk is Alice Liang, Esq., the Assistant Law Clerk is Liam Neil, Esq., and the Part Clerk is Stanisha Williams. Inquiries about case or calendar status go first to the Motion Support Office at (347) 296-1694 and then to the Part Clerk. Chambers staff cannot give guidance to counsel or litigants, ex parte communication with chambers is not permitted, and all communication to the court must be on notice to the adversary.
Motion Practice
All motions must be e-filed through NYSCEF. The published rules direct counsel not to call the court to ask whether an appearance is required. An in-person appearance is required on all motions, with one exception: the parties resolved the motion on consent and uploaded a proposed order through NYSCEF at least three business days before the return date, and the movant received confirmation that no appearance is necessary. City Parts 20 and 25 motions are heard on alternating Wednesdays, with the calendar called at 10:00 a.m. for cases beginning with letters A through M and at 11:00 a.m. for N through Z. There is no second call. A movant who fails to file papers and appear, fails to submit a consent order, or fails to obtain an adjournment may face a default or denial of the motion.
Hard copies are not required at this time, although counsel may bring a specific exhibit or affidavit in hard copy. The court will not consider papers e-filed or sent to chambers or to the part after a motion has been marked fully submitted. A video exhibit must be provided on a new USB flash drive, and CDs are not accepted. The submitting attorney must file an affirmation stating that the flash drive is new, that it has only been inserted into a computer under the attorney's custody and control, and that it is free from malware.
Conferences and Discovery
Conferences for IAS and City Part matters may be scheduled on different days. Verify your conference date with the Part Clerk in advance. Discovery matters are handled through the City Discovery Part (CDP) at (347) 401-9264, and not on the motion calendar.

What to Expect
Justice Lewis handles multiple part assignments, which means the calendar can vary depending on which part your case is in. The most important step before appearing is to confirm which calendar you are on and when. Do not assume that an IAS Part 21 conference falls on the same day as a City Part 20 matter. Motions are called in person, and counsel should not count on being excused simply because the papers are fully submitted. Unless a consent order is uploaded to NYSCEF at least three business days out and the part confirms it, plan to appear.
Tips
- Confirm your calendar, not your appearance. The published rules direct counsel not to call the court to ask whether an appearance is required. Calendar status questions go first to the Motion Support Office at (347) 296-1694 and then to the Part Clerk.
- Route discovery through the CDP. Discovery disputes are handled by the City Discovery Part at (347) 401-9264, not on the motion calendar. Know which track your issue belongs on before you show up.
- Everything on notice. The Part expects all communications with the court to be made on notice to your adversary. Do not contact chambers ex parte, even on scheduling.
- City Part matters have their own rhythm. City Parts 20 and 25 handle cases involving the City of New York. If your case involves the City, be aware that these calendars have their own pacing and procedures.
