“Motions calendars will be held on Tuesdays in Room 296, unless the Court directs otherwise.” “First calendar call is at 9:30 a.m. Second (default) calendar call is at 11:00 a.m., unless the Court directs otherwise at the first calendar call.”
Appearances Are Mandatory
“Appearances are mandatory on all motions and conferences.” A short form order reflecting the Court's directives must be submitted at every motion and conference appearance.
Who May Appear
“All parties appearing before the Court must have knowledge of the underlying case and the motion or other appearance.” “No per diem attorneys may appear at settlement conferences before the Court, and all parties appearing at conferences must have full settlement authority.”
Submission by Stipulation Only
A fully briefed motion needs no appearance only if a stipulation signed by all parties is filed on NYSCEF and emailed to the part by the Thursday before the return date. “Parties requesting oral argument on a motion must do so via email by 12:00 p.m. on the Friday before the return date.”
Adjournments
“Motions may be adjourned once on consent of all the parties via stipulation and e-filed to NYSCEF by 12:00 p.m. on the Monday before the return date, with a courtesy copy emailed to the relevant part email and copied to all appearing parties.” After that, an adjournment needs an oral application on the return date.

What to Expect
Motions in Room 296 are often discussed with the court attorney before they are marked submitted, so the attorney who appears should be able to speak to the client's position on the papers.
Field Note: October 27, 2026
On October 27, 2026, our office appeared in person for a plaintiff in opposition to a defendant's order to show cause to vacate its default. All parties were present, and the motion was discussed with the court attorney before the court marked it fully submitted. The short form order also directed the movant to renotice its motion on all parties. That is an account of a specific appearance, not a published rule.
